May 25, 2008 - Police Assault against Animal Protectionists in Austria
On 21st of May an elite squad of Austrian police broke into offices of the animal welfare organisation VGT (Verein Gegen Tierfabriken) as well as the houses of some of its members. Important equipment and data was seized and ten animal protectionists were arrested. Among these was the president of VGT, Dr. Martin Baluch, who went on a hunger strike protesting against the failure of the authorities to bring charges against the detainees.
ANIMAL RIGHTS LITHUANIA has a deep respect for VGT and their work and is strongly opposing such an assault - we hope that the Austrian law agency will soon get on the right track and let these innocent activists continue their much needed work.
