Dec. 10, 2006 - International Animal Rights Day

The ninth year in a row is commemorated on the 10th December as the International Animal Rights Day. Many objects of animal abuse shall become venues of mourning on this occasion. In addition to burning candles, public awareness will be raised through info-actions. The central legal aim in the movement of animals rights is the Universal Declaration of Animal Rights. One can sign a petition to support the adoption of this important international agreement. See http://www.uncaged.co.uk/iard.htm for more.

Meanwhile, World Society for the Protection of Animals has launched an action "Animals Matter to Me" aiming to collect signatures to support a similar document – the Universal Declaration on Animal Welfare: "an agreement among people and nations to recognize that animals are sentient and can suffer, to respect their welfare needs and to end animal cruelty – for good."
